MHSAA tennis finals: Lansing Catholic’s Noah West wins state title
Noah West fell just short of his championship goals a year ago.
The Lansing Catholic junior reached them this year.
West improved from his runner-up showing from 2025, finishing as the Division 4 No. 1 singles champion on Thursday, Oct. 22 at the Midland Tennis Center. He defeated Goodrich’s Mateus Pimentel in the championship match 6-2, 6-2.
West, the top seed, won each of his matches in straight sets while capturing the championship. Just 10 points were scored on him during the finals.
He is the first No. 1 singles state champion for Lansing Catholic since Matt Heeder won the top flight in Division 4 in 2013. He is the fifth Lansing Catholic player to win a No. 1 singles state title since 2000, also joining Paul Heeder (Division 4 in 2010), Jordan O’Neill (Division 4 in 2005) and his uncle Kevin Borzenski (Division 3 in 2001).
The championship ending for West helped Lansing Catholic finish tied for eighth with 13 points as a team. Lansing Catholic also had Jacob Payne make the semifinals as the No. 5 seed at No. 3 singles.
