Mets' Francisco Lindor Reportedly Available In Trade Talks

With the Mets far behind in the wild card race, David Stearns could start selling off pieces and looking at the future at the trade deadline.

The Mets have plenty of rental pieces that contenders could covet, like Freddy Peralta. However, Francisco Lindor is suddenly a name to watch. According to SNY’s Chelsea Janes, a rival executive said the Mets told their team that only Carson Benge, A.J. Ewing, Christian Scott, Nolan McLean and Juan Soto are unavailable in trade talks.

Lindor seems to be available, but trading him will be complicated.

“And as for Francisco Lindor, no one has given any indications the Mets are shopping him, though no one has said he is off the table either,” Janes wrote on Thursday. “He is an MVP-caliber player making MVP-candidate money for the next five seasons. Any team wanting to make a deal will likely need not only to be able to pay him that money, but also give the Mets a return that includes viable 2027 big league talent. Few teams seem willing and able to meet those asks. But with a noticeably weak free agent market for hitters looming, it feels unwise to rule anything out.”

Lindor is having a down season, but when he’s going right, he is undeniably one of the best players in the game. His contract is going to be the biggest hurdle in any trade. but he plays a premium position and many teams could use an upgrade at shortstop.
