The Oregon Ducks will be without wide receiver Messiah Hampton for Saturday’s game against the Northwestern Wildcats.

The Springfield Police Department arrested the freshman on charges of reckless driving and eluding police, according to The Oregonian’s Ryan Clarke. The report added that he was booked into Lane County Jail.

The charges reportedly stem from his involvement in a high-speed chase on Oct. 18. Police reportedly pursued two vehicles but abandoned the chase for safety reasons. Springfield Deputy Chief George Crolly later said Hampton was one of the drivers in the incident.

Hampton was listed as out on Oregon’s availability report for Saturday’s game, meaning the Ducks will have to rely on other options on the WR depth chart. Evan Stewart and Jalen Lott were not listed on Friday’s availability report and could return after missing last week’s loss to Illinois.

Stewart began his collegiate career with Texas A&M in 2022. He transferred to Oregon in 2024. He missed the entire 2025 campaign after suffering a torn right patellar tendon. He has put up 352 yards on 27 receptions and four TDs in five games this season.

Meanwhile, Lott committed to Dan Lanning’s team as part of the 2026 recruiting class. He’s seen limited time on the field, recording 29 receiving yards in two games.

Dan Lanning shares his thoughts on Oregon’s struggles this season

The Oregon Ducks started the year strong, posting a 3-1 record before their bye week. However, they lost two of their next three games, falling to UCLA and Illinois and only securing a win over Nebraska.

Speaking with ‘105.1 The Fan,’ Lanning shared his thoughts on Oregon’s performances.

“I’ve been part of games as an assistant where it didn’t always go well. But this certainly has been a challenging year as a head coach,” Lanning said. “But I really think, when it’s all said and done, this will be the year that I grow the most. … There is zero doubt in my mind that I’m going to become much better because of this season.”
