Medusa Movie In Development From Tangled Writer
The history and creation of Medusa span two main ancient traditions, with the Greek story showing her born as a monster, and the later Roman tale by Ovid sharing how she was transformed into one as a punishment. Medusa is known as a mortal with hair made of snakes which can turn people into stone with just one look. Now, Disney is bringing the story strongly paved with history to life in an entirely new way.
Deadline has reported that Disney is developing a live-action Medusa movie with Seven Bucks, and Michael Montemayor is writing the first draft for the project. Montemayor wrote for the live-action remake Tangled, which has recently concluded filming, and had The Greatest Showman‘s Michael Gracey attached as director. A lot of details are largely kept under wraps about Montemayor’s approach to the legendary snake-haired woman, but it is said to be a widely unique twist on the Ancient Greek story.
The Roman mythological tradition stated that Medusa was a beautiful human priestess dedicated to a vow of celibacy in the temple of Athena. However, the sea god Poseidon assaulted Medusa inside the temple, leading Athena to punish the priestess and transforming her hair into venomous snakes, causing anyone to gaze upon her to turn into stone. It’s unclear which direction of Medusa’s origins Montemayor will take, including how dark the movie will be.
