McTominay unsure on contract renewal, reveals Napoli sporting director

Napoli sporting director Giovanni Manna revealed Scott McTominay has not decided whether he will extend his contract with the club.

McTominay joined Napoli in 2024-25 from Manchester United and won the Serie A MVP award in his debut season as the Partenopei won the Scudetto under Antonio Conte.

They also won the Supercoppa Italiana last season while finishing second in the league, before Conte left as head coach and was replaced by Massimiliano Allegri.

Since the start of the 2024-25 season, no midfielder has outscored McTominay in Serie A (22), while only Nico Paz (33) and Christian Pulisic (32) have directly contributed to more goals than the Scotland international (29).

McTominay featured in Napoli’s first two games of this season, a 2-0 win over Genoa and a 2-1 defeat to Como, but is now set for a spell on the sidelines.

The 29-year-old will undergo a procedure to fix a mild benign arrhythmia, with a return to action expected in October.

McTominay’s current Napoli deal expires in June 2028, and Manna insisted the club are pushing to extend the deal.

“McTominay’s contract renewal? Scott said he doesn’t know if he’ll renew at this time,” Manna told DAZN.

“He has a two-year contract, we want to do it, and he wants to do it too. It’s not always easy to make things coincide, but we’re trying.”

Napoli face Arsenal in the Champions League in their next fixture, while they will look to return to winning ways in Serie A when they host Bologna this weekend.
