Max Eberl knows Luis Díaz will start scoring again for Bayern Munich

· · 2 min read

Luis Díaz had two sensational goals ruled out for offside in Bayern Munich’s 2-2 draw at Augsburg over the weekend. One was an acrobatic side-volley that Finn Dahmen arguably should have stopped, and the other was a back-heel flick that went in off the underside of the crossbar. Both efforts were ultimately disallowed by the offside flag — the first after a VAR review.

There was some controversy surrounding Díaz’s first disallowed goal, as Josip Stanišić was flagged offside a considerable time before Díaz got his shot away. Regardless, the Colombian has now gone six straight matches across all competitions without a goal or an assist. He last scored in Bayern’s Bundesliga opener—a 5-1 win over VfB Stuttgart at the Allianz Arena—and is currently enduring his longest goal-contribution drought since joining the club.

Last season, Lucho finished with 26 goals and 23 assists across all competitions, establishing himself as one of the standout signings of the summer of 2025 in Europe’s top five leagues. Given Florian Wirtz’s struggles at Liverpool, missing out on the former Bayer Leverkusen man and landing Díaz instead has proven to be a blessing in disguise for the German Rekordmeister. He has more than proven his worth despite this brief slump.

Ahead of Bayern’s Champions League clash against Norwegian side Viking FK, board member for sport Max Eberl expressed confidence that the winger will soon “come good” again based on his overall performances.

“We would have been very happy if the goal [against Augsburg] had stood, because it would have done him good. He’ll come good again. You can see his movement, he’s involved in the game, and he keeps finding solutions. I think he’s definitely on the way up,” Eberl told Bild as the team departed for Norway (via @iMiaSanMia). Vincent Kompany wanted the squad to arrive a day early to get in a training session on the artificial turf at the Lyse Arena in Stavanger.

Kompany could make changes for the fixture, but as Eberl alluded to, finding the back of the net could give Díaz a massive confidence boost, whether he starts against Viking or comes off the bench.
