Marseille to rival Rennes in race to sign Martin Terrier from Bayer Leverkusen

· · 1 min read

Bayer Leverkusen striker Martin Terrier (29) could make a return to Ligue 1 after leaving Rennes for Xabi Alonso’s Bayer Leverkusen two years ago, according to a report from Foot MercatoThe French player, uncapped at international level, only scored seven goals in 44 games played with the Werkself. Terrier’s spell in Germany has been marred by injuries, including an Achilles tear last year.

Terrier still has three years of contract left with Bayer Leverkusen, but the perspective of returning to France appeals to him. The 29-year-old is reportedly in talks with his former club, Rennes, where he spent three remarkable campaigns. Les Bretons could be in need of further attacking options with Switzerland international Breel Embolo attracting interest.

But Rennes are not the only Ligue 1 club courting Terrier. Marseille, who will compete in the UEFA Europa League, like Rennes, are also interested in signing the former Lyon and Strasbourg forward. Current Marseille manager Bruno Genesio notably coached Terrier during his peak years at Rennes, between 2021 and 2023. Marseille also need at least one striker following the exits of both Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Mason Greenwood.
