The Miami Marlins are having a very good 2026 season compared to preseason expectations. At 52-44, the Marlins are just 3.0 games back of the NL East lead, and one game up on a Wild Card spot with a game to go before the All-Star break.

With how good the season has gone, and this team having a legitimate chance to make the postseason, it wouldn’t be a shocker if the Marlins didn’t sell at the deadline. But, there’s still time to make a trade or two.

However, according to USA Today’s Bob Nightengale, the Marlins, thanks to owner Bruce Sherman, seemingly are not going to trade Sandy Alcantara this summer. The Marlins owner has no plans to move the former Cy Young winner.

“Marlins owner Bruce Sherman is telling his employees that he wants to keep ace Sandy Alcantara, and has absolutely no intention of trading him at the deadline,” Nightengale writes.

The Marlins are within striking distance of a postseason spot, so it wouldn’t be a surprise if they wound up being buyers at the trade deadline.

But, seemingly regardless of how the rest of the summer goes before the August 3 trade deadline, Alcantara doesn’t look likely to go anywhere.

The 30-year-old right-handed starter has a 3.99 ERA this season and is under club control for the 2027 season. Miami surely could land a haul for Alcantara this summer if it dealt him.

But, based on this report from Nightengale, with the Marlins owner sharing his ardent wish to keep the former Cy Young winner, it’s looking likely Alcantara is going to stick in Miami through the 2026 trade deadline.

Thanks in part to the owner’s wish and how the Marlins are in actual competition for a postseason spot, Alcantara is likely to stay in Miami through the 2026 trade deadline and the 2026 season.
