Marc Skinner leaves Man Utd after five seasons

Manchester United manager Marc Skinner has left the club after five seasons it has been announced.

The former Birmingham City and Orlando Pride boss joined the club in 2021, replacing the outgoing Casey Stoney.

The 43-year-old helped establish United one of the best sides in the WSL but struggled to truly challenge the top teams with a second place finish in the 2022/23 season the closest United came.

However, Skinner did lead the Red Devils to their second piece of silverware when the team won the FA Cup in the 2023/24 season and the club also took part in their first Champions League campaign last year..

“We would like to express our heartfelt thanks and gratitude to Marc for his significant contribution over the last five years,” United said in a social media post about the news.

According to journalist Emma Sanders of BBC Sport, Skinner’s departure is ‘mutual’ with no reason given.

Speculation will likely fall on whether Skinner left due to the club’s lack of investment – with just two new arrivals so far this summer – or whether a relatively poor 2025/26 season in the league and the manager’s divisiveness among fans encouraged the club to look elsewhere.
