This was disclosed by counter-terrorism expert, Zagazola Makama in a statement posted on X on Sunday.

According to him, the clashes occurred around the Zarmari, Bula Daloye and Chirchor enclaves within the vast forest.

Zagazola said the clashes reportedly involved more than 30 Jama’atu Ahlis-sunna, JAS, members, including women and children who were present in the affected areas.

He added that the confrontation resulted in significant casualties among the JAS faction, while some surviving members fled into nearby bushes following the fighting.

The latest confrontation highlights the continuing internal rivalry between JAS and ISWAP elements operating in the Sambisa Forest and adjoining areas.

According to him, security forces operating around Bama and neighbouring communities have been placed on heightened vigilance following the development, with troops monitoring movements within the affected areas.

“The latest clash is part of the continuing struggle between the two terrorist factions for influence, territory and access to resources in parts of Borno State,” he said.
