Manchester United‘s preseason preparations for the 2026/27 season have concluded.

The Red Devils enjoyed a strong second half of last term after Michael Carrick replaced Ruben Amorim as head coach. The former United midfielder led his side to 12 wins, three draws and just two defeats, securing third place in the Premier League and qualification for the UEFA Champions League.

Now, the onus is on Carrick — who was given the full-time manager’s job at the end of last season — to hit the ground running in 2026/27 and give supporters hope of real success.

United’s preseason started with a friendly against Wrexham in Helsinki on July 18, which they lost 1-0.

They followed that with a resounding 5-0 win over Rosenborg in which Joshua Zirkzee scored the pick of the goals, then a 2-1 victory over Diego Simeone’s Atletico Madrid.

A 1-1 draw with Paris Saint-Germain followed on August 8 preceded a match in Dublin where they shared the same scoreline with Leeds United, before prevailing on penalties.

United twice led in Wroclaw against AC Milan before the Serie A side led by Amorim ran out 4-2 winners.

Where are Man United playing preseason games?

Unlike many previous years, United did not embark on a preseason tour to places further afield such as the United States or China.

Instead, all their warm-up matches will took place in Europe. After facing Wrexham in Helsinki, Finland, they travelled Norway to play Rosenborg. They then headed to Sweden for games against Atletico Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain.

The Leeds United friendly was at Dublin’s Croke Park, while their final preseason fixture against AC Milan was in Wroclaw, Poland.

When announcing the plans, the club said the schedule “has been designed to support our football preparations, while giving us the opportunity to connect with our supporters across Europe.” Player welfare will undoubtedly have been a factor in reducing travel distances, with several United first-team stars having been at the World Cup in North America.

When do World Cup players return to Man United?

United had a total of 13 players at the World Cup, all of whom were given time off before returning for preseason duties.

Midfielder Manuel Ugarte suffered a serious knee injury while playing for Uruguay at the tournament and will be sidelined for many months, so he will not be back in the first-team picture for some time.

Carrick’s squad returned to full-strength against Milan, with the return of England duo Marcus Rashford and Kobbie Mainoo as second-half substitutes.

When is Man United’s first Premier League game of 2026/27?

United’s campaign begins with a trip to promoted Hull City on August 22. The kickoff for that Saturday game is 12:30 p.m. local time (7:30 a.m. ET).

They then have four more league matches, including the first Manchester derby of the season, until the first international break of the new campaign begins on September 21.
