Manchester City have signed full-back Carlotta Wamser from Bayer Leverkusen.

Wamser, who can play both as a left-back and right-back, has signed a four-year deal with the reigning Women’s Super League champions after spending just one season with Leverkusen.

The 22-year-old made 19 league appearances for Leverkusen last season, scoring two goals and providing one assist as they finished fifth.

Wamser won the third-most duels among Frauen-Bundesliga defenders last term (113), while she also led her team-mates in tackles won (41).

She is City’s third signing of the summer, after the arrivals of Niamh Charles and Beth Mead.

“I had a perfect welcome here and I already feel very good here and I look forward to my time here in Manchester,” said Wamser, who has won 14 caps for Germany.

“The English league is the best league in the world and Manchester City is one of the best clubs in the world.

“I feel like I need the next step for my career and I feel that I can develop as a player here. And I like the challenge as well, so I think it’s the perfect step for me right now.”

City won the WSL last season and will begin their title defence on Sunday against Birmingham City.

Andree Jeglertz’s side became the second team to win every home game in a completed WSL campaign last term, after Chelsea in 2022-23.

In all, City have won their last 12 home matches in the competition, with only Chelsea recording longer winning runs on home turf (22, 2022-2024 and 14, 2019-2021).
