Klay Thompson’s first game with the Miami Heat did not go the way fans in South Beach would have hoped.

While Thompson and most of the starters only played 13 minutes in their first preseason game against the Toronto Raptors, the former NBA champion’s performance became a huge talking point.

Thompson did not look good at all, missing shots the Heat brought him in to try and make for the team. And fans are sharing their thoughts, both good and bad, about his outing.

Against the Toronto Raptors, Klay Thompson had just two rebounds and no other positive statistical contributions, ending the game with 0 points while shooting 0-2 from the field.

Thompson was the only starter to end the game with either 0 points or 0 assists, thus putting a spotlight on his outing.

‘Major cringe…’ NBA fans have lots

Fans had a wide range of reactions, ranging from empathy and understanding all the way to frustration and even mockery.

One fan wrote, “I’m no Klay or Heat fan, but this is major cringe to attack a player with minimal minutes in a preseason game,” while another fan pointed out, “He took 2 contested shots?”

However, a third fan suggested Thompson is past his best, noting, “Once a one-way sharpshooter becomes washed, there is no going back.”

“Megan Thee Stallion curse is upon him,” wrote a fourth fan, referencing his recent high-profile relationship with the superstar rapper.

A fifth fan called for some perspective, saying, “Literally a pre-season game. And on 2 shots. Y’all are haters.”

And lastly, one final fan pointed to Thompson’s career in the 2020s to suggest this performance was no surprise, writing, “Man, I think Klay is done for good. He is balling like this after a full-on recovery from a torn ACL.”

Of course, it is far too early to start considering Thompson’s tenure with the Miami Heat a failure, as it is just the first game in preseason.

But Thompson showed glimpses of the disappointing form he has carried since leaving the Warriors in 2024, with his Mavericks tenure in particular being the most underwhelming run of his career.
