Maja Chwalinska delivers ‘so annoying’ verdict on Mirra Andreeva after French Open heartbreak

Maja Chwalinska handled French Open heartbreak with real class, joking that Mirra Andreeva’s youth and talent are already becoming almost unfair.

Chwalinska’s magical run ended on Saturday at Roland Garros, where Andreeva beat her 6-3, 6-2 to win a first Grand Slam title.

The final was painful for the Polish qualifier, but her trophy ceremony speech showed exactly why her Paris run connected with so many tennis fans.

In comments shared by The Tennis Letter, Chwalinska opened her runner-up speech with humor and genuine respect for Andreeva.

“First of all congrats to Mirra. You’re such an incredible player. You’re so young and talented, it’s so annoying 😂😂😂. Congrats to you and your team for an amazing job. I wish you all the best for the future.”

That line landed because it was both funny and accurate. Andreeva is still only 19, yet she handled a Grand Slam final with the control of someone far older.

The Russian won 62 points to Chwalinska’s 41, converted seven of 12 break point opportunities and took command after a tense opening spell full of breaks.

Andreeva’s biggest strength was how quickly she solved Chwalinska’s variety. The Pole had used patience, drop shots and clever net approaches throughout her run, but Andreeva read those patterns early.

Once Andreeva settled, she turned the match into longer rallies and made Chwalinska hit extra balls from uncomfortable positions.

Chwalinska had been the tournament’s great surprise, becoming the first qualifier to reach a Roland Garros women’s final. Fatigue looked like part of the story by the end, but so did Andreeva’s quality.

Andreeva finished with 25 winners to Chwalinska’s 10 and became the youngest women’s champion in Paris since Monica Seles.

Afterwards, Andreeva praised Chwalinska. Chwalinska lost the final, but her reaction made sure she still left Paris with admiration.
