Magic guard Jalen Suggs helped off after significant knee injury in win over Knicks

· · 2 min read

Orlando Magic guard Jalen Suggs was helped off the court on Sunday night after he suffered what appeared to be a significant non-contact knee injury.

Suggs, in the fourth quarter of their 111-102 win over the New York Knicks, went up for what should have been an easy fast break layup at Madison Square Garden. But as Suggs went up, his right knee buckled hard.

Suggs fell to the ground awkwardly after missing the shot, and immediately reached for his knee while rolling around in pain underneath the basket.

NOT what the Magic needed. Jalen Suggs goes down clutching his right knee going up for a layup without contact. @DanteMagic and Jeff Turner were right on it to not speculate the injury. But not good for the Magic who have terrible injury luck pic.twitter.com/dGyAB6D7Cd

Suggs remained down for quite some time. He was eventually helped up and limped off the floor back to the locker room, though he did so with his arms around others while barely putting any weight on his leg. Further specifics on Suggs’ injury are not yet known.

Suggs finished the night with four points, six rebounds and six assists. The former Gonzaga star, who the Magic selected with the No. 5 overall pick in 2021, is now in his sixth season in the league. He averaged 13.8 points and 5.5 assists per game last season while helping the Magic reach the playoffs for a third straight year.

Despite losing Suggs, the Magic held on to grab the nine-point win on Sunday. That marked their first victory of the season after they dropped back-to-back games to start the 2026-27 campaign. The Knicks fell to 0-3 with the loss.

p style=”text-align:left”>While Suggs’ status moving forward is still unclear, the non-contact nature of his injury is undoubtedly concerning for the Magic. With Paolo Banchero already sidelined with an ankle sprain, losing Suggs for any significant amount of time will make things much more difficult for their backcourt as the new season gets started.
