Lukaku set to join Fenerbahce as Chelsea stand to benefit

Fenerbahce are closing in on a deal to sign Romelu Lukaku from Napoli, with the Belgian striker having agreed in principle to join the Turkish club.

According to Gazzetta dello Sport, negotiations between Fenerbahce and Napoli are now in their final stages, with the transfer expected to be completed within the next 24 hours.

Lukaku has reportedly agreed to a two-year contract worth €10 million, including bonuses, with Fenerbahce keen to add the experienced striker to their squad.

Napoli are also prepared to sanction the 33-year-old’s departure, with the former Italian champions understood to need at least €10-12m from the transfer to avoid a capital loss.

Fenerbahce close in on Lukaku deal with Napoli

The deal has an additional financial implication for Chelsea. Napoli agreed to pay the London club a 40 per cent sell-on share of any future transfer when they signed Lukaku in 2024.

Gazzetta reports that Lukaku’s departure would also remove his €11m gross annual salary from Napoli’s wage bill, giving the Serie A side greater room to manoeuvre in the transfer market.

Lukaku joined Napoli in 2024 and helped the club to the Serie A title that season. His proposed move to Fenerbahce would give him the opportunity to continue playing in the Champions League, with the Turkish club currently in the qualifying rounds.

The striker’s agent Federico Pastorello is also expected to hold talks in Italy as the parties work towards completing the transfer.

Fenerbahce’s move for Lukaku would give new manager Ismail Kartal another experienced attacking option as the Turkish club look to challenge for domestic honours and progress in Europe.
