Luis Enrique expresses delight over Torres arrival at PSG

Luis Enrique believes Paris Saint-Germain “have to change things to continue winning” as he welcomed the signing of Ferran Torres.

The 26-year-old, who scored the winning goal for Spain in the 2026 World Cup final, completed a €50m transfer from Barcelona on Saturday.

Torres is PSG’s fourth signing of the summer, after Maghnes Akliouche, Lucas Digne and Khalil Ayari, and the Spaniard has already taken part in training ahead of Sunday’s Trophee des Champions.

Luis Enrique wants to see his squad become stronger every season, and insists Torres’ versatility does exactly that.

“I’m happy about Ferran Torres’ arrival. We’re improving our team.

“We have to be open to every possibility we have, and Ferran is a world-class player.

“We know him very well. He’ll adapt to what we want; he can play anywhere across the front line. It’s important to have this type of player back.

“We’re continuing to work with Luis Campos to improve the team.

“We must always remember that the arrival of new players gives us a different mindset. We have to change things to continue winning.”

PSG have already won some silverware in 2026-27, defeating Aston Villa 2-1 in the Super Cup.

They can add another trophy to their cabinet when they face Lens in the Trophee des Champions, and Luis Enrique expects another tough challenge.

“A final isn’t like any other match,” added the PSG boss.

“If you score, the opponent has nothing to lose and attacks. So it’s a different kind of match.

“Finals are often open. We’re going to play in a stadium with a great atmosphere and try to turn that to our advantage.

“We’re not in our usual physical and technical shape, but we’re aiming to win this game.”

Florian Thauvin was the only Lens player last season to directly contribute to 10+ goals and 10+ assists, registering 24 direct goal involvements (14 goals, 10 assists).

He also scored and assisted in the Coupe de France final as Lens beat Nice 3-1.

Paris Saint-Germain – Desire Doue

Desire Doue wasted no time in finding his rhythm following his return from an extended break, starring in PSG’s Super Cup win.

The 21-year-old assisted Khvicha Kvaratskhelia’s opener before scoring the winner, despite not featuring in any pre-season games.

MATCH PREDICTION – PARIS SAINT-GERMAIN WIN

PSG have become synonymous with the Trophee des Champions, winning 12 of the last 13 editions of the competition. The only exception came in 2021, when Lille clinched a 1-0 victory over Mauricio Pochettino’s PSG.

Luis Enrique has also welcomed back Fabian Ruiz, Ousmane Dembele and Bradley Barcola following their extended holidays.

Lens, however, showed their strength last season, finishing second in Ligue 1 while winning their maiden Coupe de France title.

While head coach Pierre Sage left for Crystal Palace, Dino Toppmoller will be hoping to begin his tenure with a trophy.
