Lucas Glover removes shoes on the green to protest Aimpoint putting technique

Lucas Glover is not a fan of the Aimpoint putting technique. In the past, he has complained about how it slows down play and also causes too many footsteps near the hole during the Lucas Glover Show, which formerly aired on Sirius/XM.

But Glover, 45, became fed up with it on Sunday during the final round of the PGA Tour’s 3M Open at TPC Twin Cities in Blaine, Minnesota, and he wasn’t going to take it anymore.

Glover, a six-time Tour winner, including at the 2009 U.S. Open at Bethpage Black, was paired in the final round with Max Greyserman. On the 10th hole, Glover rolled in a 10-foot birdie putt to improve to 6-under par for the tournament.

Then, Glover let it be known that he had had enough with the foot stomping around the hole due to players using the Aimpoint technique, which determines the break of the putt via a feel-based system, and took off his golf shoes as a protest of sorts. [Riled up, he made a triple bogey on the next hole.]

Glover joined the Tour Player Advisory Council for the first time earlier this season and was named PAC Chairman. Beginning next season, he will join the Tour’s board as a player director, replacing Adam Scott. Perhaps Glover will make Aimpoint a topic of discussion when the board isn’t busy making changes to the schedule and competitive model, beginning in 2028.
