Luca Reggiani could leave Borussia Dortmund in January

Luca Reggiani could leave Borussia Dortmund in January after struggling for first-team opportunities this season. Kicker, in a report carried by FussballTransfers, says a winter departure is considered likely, with discussions about his future having already progressed during the summer.

The report claims Dortmund has doubts over whether the 18-year-old center-back currently meets the level required for its senior squad. Reggiani has made only two first-team appearances this season, totaling 50 minutes.

He was left out of the squad for Saturday’s 0-0 draw with Union Berlin and instead played for Dortmund’s reserve team. The club’s official match report confirms that he started the U23 side’s 4-2 win at Wiedenbrück in the Regionalliga West.

AC Milan and Inter were previously linked with the Italian defender. Those connections date back to earlier transfer reporting, and the latest update does not establish fresh talks with either club. Dortmund’s asking price has also not been disclosed.

A departure would come less than a year after Reggiani signed his first professional contract. Dortmund announced that agreement in March, following his progress from the academy into Niko Kovač’s team. His deal runs until 2029.

Reggiani joined Dortmund from Sassuolo in February 2024 and advanced through the U17 and U19 teams. He made his senior debut in a 2-1 win over Wolfsburg on February 7, 2026, before appearing in the Champions League ten days later.

He then scored his first senior goal in Dortmund’s 2-0 victory over Augsburg on March 14. His header from Julian Ryerson’s corner helped seal the win and made him the youngest Italian goalscorer in Bundesliga history.

That early breakthrough has been followed by a much smaller role this season. With more than two years remaining on his contract, Dortmund would still control the terms of a transfer, while regular senior minutes would be an obvious priority for Reggiani when considering his next step.
