LSU football climbs to No. 6 in ESPN’s SP+ rankings after Week 7

LSU football broke back into the win column in Week 7 with a 31-0 victory over Mississippi State. Head coach Lane Kiffin and his team defeated the Bulldogs for their second SEC win of 2026 amid a week of chaos in the conference.

ESPN’s SP+ rankings shifted after a week of upsets. SP+ is a tempo- and opponent-adjusted measure of efficiency designed to predict future performance. LSU climbed three spots to No. 6 in the country with a 22.6 overall rating. That is nearly one point higher than where it ended Week 6.

No. 8 Texas (21.1) and No. 12 Alabama (18.5) dropped two and four spots, respectively, after upset losses. Georgia, despite suffering its first loss of the season, remains at No. 2 with a 26.5 rating. The Bulldogs, Tigers and Longhorns represent the SEC in the top 10 of the SP+ rankings.

LSU travels to Auburn on Saturday, then hosts Alabama and Texas to open November. The purple and gold head to Tennessee in Week 12. The Volunteers are No. 13 with a 17.5 rating in the post-Week 7 SP+ rankings.
