LSU baseball loses talented recruit to Big Ten program

LSU baseball lost one of its 2026 signees on Sunday. Middle infielder CJ Weinstein flipped his commitment to UCLA, according to a post to his social media account on Sunday.

Weinstein was one of two middle infield recruits signed to LSU in the 2026 cycle. Multiple scouts projected him as a second baseman at the professional level. He is the No. 149 overall player in MLB.com’s draft rankings.

Weinstein hails from Newport Beach, CA and attends Orange Lutheran High School. The flip marks a commitment to his home state and arguably the best college baseball team in the state. The Bruins spent much of the 2026 season ranked atop multiple polls.

Weinstein is likely looking for a chance to play right away. LSU’s infield was getting crowded with the return of infielder Steven Milam and the transfer additions of Cade Kurland and Dawson Park.

With the loss of Weinstein, LSU’s 2026 signing class currently sits at 22 players. The number of prospects that actually head to Baton Rouge in the fall has yet to be determined as the MLB Draft looms. Several players will hear their names called and need to decide between professional and college baseball.
