LSU baseball adds veteran transfer portal infielder from SEC rival

· · 1 min read

LSU baseball’s transfer portal class grew on Thursday night as the Tigers added an infielder from an SEC rival. Ex-Florida second baseman Cade Kurland committed to LSU, becoming the fourth portal player to do so. Kurland announced the commitment with a social media post.

Kurland heads to Baton Rouge after spending four years in Gainesville. He owns a .888 career OPS with 200 hits and 43 homers. It’s rare to find an available transfer with this much SEC production. Jay Johnson and staff are putting a premium on veterans after LSU was inconsistent at the plate in 2026.

Kurland impressed when the Gators played LSU in 2026, scoring five runs across the three-game series. Kurland homered twice in the series finale.

Kurland, originally from Tampa, stands at 5-foot-11. He only played in 14 games in 2025 due to a season-ending shoulder surgery.

LSU will have a new look infield in 2027 and Kurland figures to have a starting role. The Tigers have open slots at second base and third base, and the status of shortstop Steven Milam is unclear as he mulls returning to school vs. turning pro.

Kurland is LSU’s third position player transfer of the cycle, joining ex-Texas State shortstop Dawson Park and former Notre Dame outfielder Bino Watters.
