Local reports: Liverpool close to triggering release clause for elite talent

Liverpool are reportedly close to triggering a release clause. They’re chasing a brilliant young player.

Liverpool’s hunt for new players continues. They’ve already signed Victor Munoz this summer, of course, but certainly aren’t done there.

This is a squad that already needed improvements and has now lost key players. It’s a light squad – one that is actually quite unfair on Andoni Iraola if Liverpool are to deliver expectations.

Interestingly, the Reds do seem to be heavily focused on young players. There was strong interest in Yan Diomande before he picked Paris Saint-Germain, of course.

And there’s also, per the Athletic, strong interest in Yankuba Minteh, Said El Mala and Matias Fernandez-Pardo. All are 21 or under and that seems to be the market Liverpool want to buy in.

Further supporting that is an interest in Gilberto Mora. Mora was the youngest player at the World Cup this summer and is considered the future of Mexican football.

He actually started the last 16 clash against England – a massive sign of the enormous faith, and hope, that his country as in him. That level of expectation means Mora isn’t remaining in Mexico for long and clubs are already lining up to sign him.

One of those is reportedly Liverpool. El Universal, Mexico’s biggest news outlet, claims that the Reds are near the front of the queue for Mora.

Only Arsenal are named alongside them as the two Premier League giants weigh up triggering his release clause. That clause sits at $25m – not a particularly high amount for either club if Mora is the player many believe him to be.

That amount would be three, maybe even four times that if he were an English or Spanish player. Even a player coming out of Brazil’s Serie A would command a much, much larger amount.

We imagine, then, that Liverpool will eventually trigger it. If they believe Mora is a special talent worth having that $25m is a potential bargain.
