Lions trade idea fixes Detroit’s biggest issue in $62M star from lousy Browns

The Detroit Lions are in one of the more interesting positions in the NFL right now, with some not believing they’re as good as they have been over the past few years.

I’m personally very curious to see how the Lions look throughout the season, as I believe they’ll still be one of the better teams in the league, and at least a playoff-caliber team for now. However, to become Super Bowl contenders, the Lions might need to make another move.

The lucky part is that there are multiple players out there for them to pursue, even one from the Cleveland Browns who might not be available, at least at the moment. That guy is none other than Denzel Ward, who Mina Kimes of ESPN believes would be an excellent fit in Detroit.

“I could see them being first place in the division [mid-season], the offense is great, Drew Petzing has worked out, but they realize the defense isn’t actually good enough,” Kimes said, H/T Heavy. “But they know they need another pass-rusher, another DB. And also they know that this might be their shot. The NFC North is like weird and wide open.

“Trade for Denzel Ward maybe?” Kimes said. “Denzel Ward makes sense in that defense — good fit.”

Given how competitive the NFC North is, it almost feels like a move the Lions would have to make if it becomes available. I have many questions about their secondary, but the nice part is that guys like Ward could be available, and there’s already a sense that Joey Porter Jr. of the Pittsburgh Steelers could eventually be dealt.

In that regard, the Lions should be more than fine in terms of finding a player who can come in and make an impact for them on that side of the football.
