Lions pleased with decision to forego joint practices in 2026

Before Detroit wrapped its 2026 NFL preseason slate last Saturday against the Indianapolis Colts, Lions head coach Dan Campbell was asked to revisit the organization’s decision to forego joint practices this offseason.

“I want to be careful. This is not ‘OK, well, I’m done with those.’ This is right for this year. This felt right, and I’m glad we did it, and it was just what the doctor ordered,” Campbell said during a press conference last Wednesday.

Detroit was one of four NFL teams that didn’t participate in joint practices this offseason, joining the Denver Broncos, Kansas City Chiefs and Pittsburgh Steelers.

Campbell said he’s open to joint practices returning in 2027.

“That doesn’t mean that we won’t go back to (joint practices) next year. I mean, we could. If I find the right partner and it just makes sense, man, well, I’m open to that. I just know right now this is what we needed. This was good,” Campbell said.

Detroit’s final preseason game on Sunday against Indianapolis will start at 1 p.m.
