Lionesses to face Greece in World Cup play-offs, Slovakia or Ukraine await victors
Syndicated reporting provided by Stats Perform and reviewed by the SoccerNews editorial team.
England will face Greece in the first round of the qualification play-offs for next year’s Women’s World Cup, with the victors then taking on Slovakia or Ukraine.
The Lionesses must get through two play-off rounds, both of which will be played over two legs, to reach the 2027 tournament in Brazil.
That is after they failed to top a qualification group that also included reigning world champions Spain, with a 4-0 defeat to La Roja in Majorca earlier this month ultimately costing England, who won their other five games, including a 1-0 home victory over Spain.
Sarina Wiegman’s two-time European champions will go to Greece for the first leg of their first-round tie, and with the play-offs set to take place across October, November and December.
They could then face a swift reunion with Ukraine, who they defeated 6-1 and 3-0 in their qualification group, should they get past Slovakia.
