LeBron James confirms he has a Michael Jordan Last Dance-style documentary in the works

As LeBron James looks to be winding down his career, he has taken a page out of his idol, Michael Jordan’s playbook and greenlit a documentary for his final years in the NBA.

The Last Dance docuseries followed Jordan and the 1997-98 Chicago Bulls en route to their sixth and final NBA championship before the team was broken up.

The docuseries was a huge hit among basketball fans and has seemingly inspired LeBron James to follow in the footsteps of the man who inspired him to wear .

Speaking at a Boardroom Talks event recently, LeBron James confirmed that he is working on a documentary to chronicle the final years of his career.

He praised the documentary, calling it ‘electric,’ and suggested that fans would be thrilled with the final result when it is ready to go out.

“I got a pretty good documentary in the works, too. It is gonna be electric when I’m done with it.”

James may have been inspired to greenlight a documentary on the final years of his career by Michael Jordan, who allowed a camera crew to follow him and the 97-98 Chicago Bulls.

It took 22 years for that footage to see the light of day, as The Last Dance docuseries didn’t actually come out until 2020.

Hopefully, James’ docuseries does not take nearly as long as Jordan’s, as fans will want to celebrate one of the greatest careers in NBA history.

While both LeBron James and Michael Jordan have a healthy respect for one another, there is obviously a competitive element to their relationship.

Both players are often pitted against each other in the debate to crown the greatest player of all time. But sometimes, the two superstars engage in mind games with each other.

According to Ramona Shelburne of ESPN (via Business Insider), Michael Jordan approved The Last Dance docuseries to the producer when he saw LeBron James complete a 3-1 comeback and lead the Cleveland Cavaliers to their first NBA championship ever.

Some have suggested that seeing James demolish a team that had just broken his and the Bulls’ 72-10 season record gave Jordan reason to think his legacy was being drowned out by James’ accomplishment.

Whether that was the case or not, there is no denying that The Last Dance docuseries allowed a generation of fans who never witnessed Michael Jordan’s career to understand the impact he had on the sport.
