Lakers’ draft pick Cameron Carr previously called out Shai Gilgeous-Alexander’s flopping

The newest member of the Los Angeles Lakers has already made his thoughts on one of the NBA’s best players clear.

In a video that resurfaced after his selection Tuesday, Cameron Carr reveals that he is not keen on dealing with the foul-drawing skills of Shai Gilgeous-Alexander.

The Lakers executed a trade with the New York Knicks to bring the former Tennessee wing into the plan, hoping to benefit from his shooting abilities and defensive abilities. As a classic 3-and-D guy, Carr boosts a ton of athleticism and a massive wingspan.

All of which he will need at the professional level, where he will be tasked with guarding the best players in the world.

Asked in a House of Highlights video if he would rather guard Anthony Edwards or Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Carr had a pretty candid answer.

“I ain’t dealing with the flopping,” Carr joked.

Carr joins a Lakers team in need of defense

It makes all the sense in the world that we’re seeing the video all over the place. There’s a certain shade-throwing element to it and the stage is now set for Gilgeous-Alexander to send a message the first time he faces the Lakers next season. Edwards can even find his own motivation knowing that some rookie would rather guard him than a former MVP. Perceived disrespect is the grease that keeps the NBA’s wheels in forward motion.

Honestly, though, I sort of like the take from Carr. Facing SGA is a future problem that future Carr has to deal with. The Carr being asked about a hypothetical, that was just fun, engaging Carr trying to create some compelling content.

The Lakers should be happy that he’s willing to guard anyone, considering that lack of resistance against teams proved to be their fatal flaw last season and LeBron James isn’t getting any younger.
