Lagos: Police identify inspector in viral video, begin disciplinary action

Lagos State Police Command has identified the police inspector featured in a viral video making inappropriate remarks while travelling in a public vehicle.

The command said it has commenced disciplinary proceedings against the officer.

It disclosed this in a statement released in Ikeja on Friday and signed by its spokesperson, SP Abimbola Adebisi.

According to the statement, the officer was identified as Inspector Osumah Frank, following the circulation of the video in which he allegedly made what the command described as “careless, inappropriate and uncultured remarks.”

The command said disciplinary action had been initiated against the inspector in accordance with the established regulations of the Nigeria Police Force.

It also distanced itself and the wider police force from the comments attributed to the officer, stressing that the remarks were made in his personal capacity.

“The statements made by the officer were made in his personal capacity and do not represent the position, views or official disposition of the Lagos State Police Command or the Nigeria Police Force,” the statement said.

The Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Tijani Fatai, reiterated that police personnel must maintain professionalism, civility and discipline while interacting with members of the public.

Fatai also emphasised that police officers are expected to conduct themselves in a manner that reflects the dignity and integrity associated with wearing the uniform.

The commissioner warned that the command would not tolerate conduct capable of damaging the reputation of the police or weakening public confidence in the institution.

The command reaffirmed its commitment to transparency, accountability and what it described as policing with humility and integrity.
