Lagos agency ends grace period, begins enforcement of parking permits

The Lagos State Parking Authority, LASPA, has ended its extended grace period for customers to obtain their 2026 parking permits, beginning enforcement of the parking regulations across all its operational zones in Lagos State.

A statement by the Lagos state government said the General Manager of LASPA, Mrs Adebisi Adelabu, disclosed that the grace period was extended to give affected customers enough time to regularise their activities and obtain the required 2026 parking permits.

She said the enforcement exercise became necessary after a significant number of customers failed to obtain their permits despite several appeals, direct communications, reminders and the extended period provided by the Authority.

According to Adelabu, the exercise is aimed at ensuring full compliance with the laws governing the transport sector while improving parking management across Lagos.

The General Manager explained that LASPA had earlier distributed the 2026 Demand Notices to all registered customers. The notices contained the applicable fees, requirements and procedures for obtaining the 2026 parking permits.

She urged customers who are yet to regularise their operations to take immediate steps to meet their obligations and avoid sanctions for continued non-compliance.

“The enforcement exercise is not intended to be punitive, but a necessary measure to restore order, accountability, and efficiency within Lagos’ parking ecosystem,” Adelabu said.

She noted that valid parking permits and accurate customer records were necessary for LASPA to effectively plan, monitor, regulate and manage parking infrastructure and services across the state.

The General Manager further disclosed that customers who default on the 2026 Demand Notices would face severe penalties, including substantial fines and immediate suspension of operations.

She said the penalties were in line with the Lagos State Transport Sector Reform Law, 2018, and again urged affected customers to regularise their operations and obtain the required parking permits without further delay.

She added that LASPA personnel are available to assist and guide customers, including those who need help with the Authority’s online payment and registration portals.

Adelabu also restated LASPA’s commitment to providing an efficient and sustainable parking system for residents, businesses and visitors across Lagos State.

She urged residents to cooperate with enforcement officers and report any unauthorised parking activities to LASPA.
