Kyrie Irving publicly has Azeez Al-Shaair’s back after the NFL star was fined for promoting a pro-Palestine message.

Houston Texans linebacker Azeez Al-Shaair was fined $11,492 after he wore an unauthorised message on his eye black during their 36-31 loss against the Buffalo Bills.

The message bore the name ‘Hind Rajab’, a Palestinian girl who was killed alongside her family in Gaza City in 2024. Their car came under fire from Israeli forces, and she was trapped in it before eventually being found dead.

Al-Shaair has been vocal in his support for Palestine, he was fined for a similar infraction in January when he wrote ‘stop the genocide’ in his eye black. This time, he has an NBA star in his corner.

NFL rules bar players from wearing, displaying, or conveying personal messages while they are visible to the stadium and television audience unless the league office approves the message in advance.

While the fine is for the message not being authorised, the message remains political. Kyrie Irving is someone who has been very vocal about social issues of this sort, and he has now stepped in.

After reposting the report of Al-Shaair’s punishment, the Dallas Mavericks star simply stated, “I will take care of his fine,” on X.

The country and the world are both picking sides as the devastating conflict in the Middle East continues to claim lives. Irving and Al-Shaair have both made their stances clear, and it remains to be seen if Kyrie’s position causes any problems for him within the context of the NBA.
