Newly signed Knicks guard Dalton Knecht got his first points for the team with an putback slam on his debut. Not to be outdone, Karl-Anthony Towns got his own highlight reel dunk Saturday against the Cleveland Cavs.

With a quick pump fake from the 3-point line, Towns blew right by Thomas Bryant, then put the Cavs big man on a poster as he got up and threw the ball down for an and-1.

After a slow start to their title defense, Towns and the Knicks are looking for their third straight win against the Cavs to climb up above .500 for the first time this season. It’s been the Knicks backcourt leading the team during their recent win streak. Landry Shamet exploded for 22 points off the bench against Brooklyn. Jalen Brunson then exploded for 33 points in just 28 minutes against the Bulls.

Towns’ numbers at the start of November haven’t been amazing. Through two games, he is averaging just 14 points and 14 rebounds. Granted, he only played 25 minutes in a blowout win against the Chicago Bulls and still finished with 17 points and 12 rebounds. He’s finding his groove offensively against the Cavs, though. Aside from his highlight slam, he’s already broken 20 points early in the third quarter.

Amid his contract extension drama early in the season, Towns has been a picture of consistency to start this campaign. He’s averaging 19.9 points and 13.6 rebounds and has had a double-double in every single game heading into Saturday against the Cavs. That is a great sign for the Knicks’ hopes of successfully defending their title.
