Klose expects his goal-scoring record to be broken at 2026 World Cup

Former Germany striker Miroslav Klose expects his record for most World Cup goals to be broken at the tournament in the United States, Mexico and Canada.

“I expect my record to be broken in this tournament. With a larger field of participants, there are more games and thus more opportunities to score goals,” Klose told the Süddeutsche Zeitung newspaper in an interview.

The 2014 world champion tops the all-time World Cup scoring list with 16 goals. Argentina‘s Lionel Messi (13 goals) and France‘s Kylian Mbappé (12 goals) are two active players close to reaching the milestone.

Since his record is bound to be broken at some point anyway, Klose added that he would be perfectly fine with Messi taking the honour.

Klose, who’s now the coach of German second-division club Nuremberg, broke Ronaldo‘s record in the semi-finals of the 2014 World Cup, scoring the record-breaking goal in the epic 7-1 win against hosts Brazil.
