Key safety target thinks he could be a 'great leader' at Florida State

The Florida State Seminoles have their eyes firmly set on 2027 four-star safety Ta’Shawn Poole. He took an official visit to Tallahassee this weekend with FSU and the Tennessee Volunteers as his top schools.

It’s a tight race as he’s likely to make his decision in July. A key factor for the 6-foot-2, 185-pounder is getting to see the field early. While he was on campus, Poole discussed what his role would be with the Seminoles, and it was exactly what he wanted to hear as he sees himself as a fit in their 3-3-5 scheme.

” They showed me the position and where I fit at in the scheme, and I think I could be a great leader for the team and just play my role,” Poole told Noles247.

In defensive coordinator Tony White’s system, they roll out one free safety and two hybrid safeties. In high school, Poole plays free safety. In the 3-3-5, a free safety is responsible for being the center fielder and taking care of deep coverage. They drop into the deep third of the field in a Cover 3 or the deep half in a Cover 2 as they read the eyes of the quarterback.

As a junior at Howard High School, Poole thrived as a free safety. He produced 37 tackles, two tackles for loss, two interceptions, and one sack. Poole also contributed on offense with 30 receptions for 454 yards and seven touchdowns, plus he added 200 rushing yards and four more scores.

A major development has occurred in Poole’s recruitment after visiting FSU. He has canceled his official visit with the Miami Hurricanes next weekend. This can only help the Seminoles’ chances with their arch-rival out of the way.

Florida State has added four commitments in the 2027 cycle in the last week with three of them being blue-chip prospects, but they did lose three-star athlete Dayon Cooper on Sunday. Landing Poole would be another major boost to the class.

Poole is the No. 64 player nationally and the No. 5 safety per 247Sports composite rankings. He’s ranked as the No. 5 recruit in the state of Georgia as well.
