Kevin Durant Thinks NBA Fans Regret Trash-Talking To Him: ‘I Hit You In The Soul’

nKevin Durant has never denied that he loves trash-talking on the court. One could even say it fuels his game. Still, opponents and fans trash-talk him on several occasions every season.

The Rockets’ veteran superstar recently sat down with Speedy Morman for a conversation on Boardroom Talks, where he discussed fans feeling entitled to talk trash to players as a part of the experience at NBA games.

“That’s a part of the experience, man. I like, I’ve realized that too, like they enjoy that part, too. Like they enjoy getting, like, seeing that side of us. Fans do. Real sh-t…. They do. It’s just cuz it just feels like that’s why they bought my tickets, like to really get the feel for who these dudes are,” Kevin Durant said.

“I know they’re not just like the perfect individuals. We know we got some crazy motherf—ers in our league. So, let me see. Let me rage bait one of these dudes real quick.”

“And sometimes dudes just don’t; they might ignore them, but they know if they come to me, and now people know if they say something to me, I’m gonna say something back.”

“But it’s not rage baiting when you’re going to leave this interaction feeling f–ked up… Because I’mma hit you in the soul. Like it’s just real personal sh-t that like ‘I’m way better than you at life. Like I’ve accomplished what you want to do in life. You’re watching me. You pay my rent. All types of stuff.'”

“Like I go to that point cuz you don’t need to talk to me to like that. You know what I’m saying? Like you can cheer for me and react to a play, but you want to see this part of this side of me. So why not?”

“Especially in that setting. I’ve been doing it my whole life. Since I was 10, I’ve been talking sh-t like this. No [ __ ] I’m better than you. Not cursing. Not cursing, but just really popping. That’s what we do. That’s how we play basketball where we’re from.”

“I feel great that I can provide them one of the core memories of their life. That simple… I had an interaction with this dude. I talked to this dude; they feel like a part of my family when I go at them like a real person,” Kevin Durant concluded.

Earlier in the interview, Durant also addressed a viral incident during his time with the Phoenix Suns when they were playing the Dallas Mavericks in February 2024, and a fan called him a ‘b–ch’ while he was running onto the court pregame.

“Bro, I didn’t press him… I didn’t press him… It was so funny the story they tried to tell me too, though. He was just like, he was like, my boy who ran a podcast. He had passed away, and he used to always call you a b—h on a podcast. So in memory of him, we just like to honor him by calling you a b—h every time we see you.”

“So, like, as they explained this to me and we’re running on the court to start the game, I’m like, ‘What am I doing though? I’m like, why am I even indulging in this right now?’ This, I’m like, in my mind, I’m just like, ‘This story, it’s insane. What am I doing?'”

“Yo, and then there’s like cameras around. I’m like, damn, I just really made this a moment for no reason, but I just could have kept it moving. And I was just like, oh, these people are crazy.”

“In my mind, I was just like, well, f–k you and your friend… He used to call you a b–ch on this podcast every time. Like that was your name. It wasn’t Kevin. It was like the b—h.”

“It’s just like, and she really thought it was cool. She thought she was sweet… They asked like, “Oh, you want them to be kicked out?” I was like, I thought about it, too,” said Durant, who had eventually allowed the fans to stay in the arena.

“Yeah. I don’t like getting people kicked out when they heckle me and s–t. Cuz I know I’m going to get buckets that night. So, I know I’m going to use you as a reason. And cuss them out after every shot, ‘b–ch, f–k you.'”

So while Kevin Durant admits he personally targets fans with his words, he doesn’t go so far as to get fans ejected from the arena just because of their trash talk directed at him. If anything, Durant sees trash talk as a sign of his opponents’ respect and their fans’ fear of his performance.

In 2025-26, Kevin Durant averaged 26.0 points, 5.5 rebounds and 4.8 assists while shooting 52.0% from the field and 41.3% from the three-point line in 78 games. If he were on a top-three-seeded team, he would be in the MVP conversations even at age 37. So his game backs up the confidence in his trash talk.

On multiple occasions, even when Durant was on the bench and not playing, the 37-year-old had heated trash-talking incidents on the court. Dillon Brooks, Bruce Brown, Ace Bailey, and even Ja Morant’s father, Tee Morant, all had incidents with Durant this season that eventually led to him torching their respective teams.

Even on social media, Durant famously doesn’t hold back from most critics. It is clear that if there were an educational degree in trash-talking, Kevin Durant would have a doctorate in it.

Fortunately, Kevin Durant recognizes that nothing holds him back from ruthlessly attacking almost anyone who comes at him directly. So, his comments can be considered a warning to fans not to engage in trash talk with him again.
