Kentucky Wildcats News: Otega Oweh waived and UK vs. UCF Basketball Week

· · 2 min read

Last season’s star for the Kentucky Wildcats, Otega Oweh, heard his name called this past summer in the NBA draft when the Oklahoma City Thunder selected him with the 41st overall pick.

He showed flashes in the preseason and it looked like he would have a very good chance at carving out an immediate roll with the NBA title-contenders until he ruptured his achilles just before the regular season began.

It got worse this weekend when the Thunder — after using a second round pick on Oweh just a handful of months ago — decided to waive him from the team.

Professional sports can certainly be “ruthless” and we should all come together to wish him a speedy recovery.

In more Kentucky basketball news, head coach Mark Pope and this year’s team will face UCF in their final exhibition game this Wednesday.

Kentucky is fresh off an impressive comeback over Top-25 Texas Tech last Friday in Rupp Arena.

This Wednesday’s game is scheduled for 6 PM ET with coverage on the SEC Network.
