Kentucky makes the final six for a four-star 2028 quarterback

Will Stein has only been the head coach of the Kentucky Wildcats football team for a handful of months, but is already proving very good at recruiting, especially the quarterback position. He has a reputation for developing NFL QBs, which has attracted players like Kenny Minchey, Matt Ponatoski, and top 30 recruit Jake Nawrot.

Now, Stein is looking to add another talented passer, this time from the 2028 class, in Trace Hawkins. Hawkins is a 6’0″, 180 lb quarterback out of Georgia. He is rated four stars and ranks as the No. 294 overall player in his class in the 247Sports composite rankings.

On Tuesday, Hawkins cut his list of schools down to six, and Chad Simmons of Rivals reports (subscription required) that Kentucky is one of them. The others are Virginia Tech, the Clemson Tigers, Vanderbilt, LSU Tigers, and Duke Blue Devils.

It’s still early, but Hawkins is looking to make a decision sooner rather than later. It says a lot about Stein that a top QB is interested in Kentucky with top prospects like Nawrot already committed. That’s what good programs do, though, and Stein is looking to take the Wildcats to the next level Players like Hawkins could help him do it.
