Kendall Coyne Schofield re-signs with Minnesota Frost on 2-year deal

Kendall Coyne Schofield is returning to the Minnesota Frost, signing a two-year contract with the two-time PWHL Walter Cup champions.

The Frost didn’t protect its captain from the PWHL’s lengthy expansion process in June, opting to shield goaltender Maddie Rooney and forwards Kelly Pannek and Taylor Fox (née Heise). Coyne Schofield wasn’t plucked to join an expansion team, but also didn’t immediately re-sign with the Frost at the time.

On Monday, more than three months into the offseason, the team announced Coyne Schofield would indeed return through the 2027-28 season.

“My first three seasons in Minnesota have been unforgettable for my family and me,” Coyne Schofield said in a press release. “We’re thrilled to be back for the next two seasons and can’t wait to return for Season Four. I’m ready to put in the work to bring the Walter Cup back to Minnesota.”

Coyne Schofield, 34, remains one of the league’s most efficient five-on-five producers. No player had a higher Net Rating than Coyne Schofield last season (+6.2), according to Dom Luszczyszyn’s model, including Montreal captain Marie-Philip Poulin and Pannek, who was named league MVP. Over the last three regular seasons with the Frost, Coyne Schofield has been on the ice for 66 goals at five-on-five and just 29 against, per PWHL Analytics.

With Coyne Schofield returning, the Frost are bringing back four of their top five scoring forwards from last season, and eight players who won back-to-back Walter Cup titles in 2024 and 2025.
