Kelsey Mitchell breaks Rhyne Howard's recently-set WNBA single-season 3-point record
Kelsey Mitchell is collecting WNBA records like Infinity Stones.
Mitchell knocked down two 3-pointers in the Indiana Fever’s regular-season finale against the Minnesota Lynx on Thursday, Sept. 24, bringing her season total to 135 made 3-pointers and counting, a new WNBA single-season record.
Atlanta Dream star Rhyne Howardpreviously broke the record on Sept. 17, surpassing New York Liberty guard Sabrina Ionescu’s mark of 128 made 3-pointers in 36 games in 2023. Howard improved her total to 134 made 3-pointers across 43 games, but Mitchell quickly topped Howard’s mark to claim the record for herself.
Mitchell’s historic shot came against the Lynx at the 1:46 mark of the second quarter. She struggled offensively in the matchup, opening 0-of-3 from the 3-point line before knocking down back-to-back 3s to claim the record.
It marks the only highlight of the matchup for Indiana, as the Fever faced a 30-point halftime deficit against the Lynx, their largest of the season. Mitchell had 10 points, two rebounds, one assist and one steal at halftime.

The 5-foot-8 guard has been setting records all season. Mitchell broke the WNBA single-season scoring record on Friday, Sept. 18 during a 103-85 road win against the Toronto Tempo. The record was previously held by Las Vegas Aces star A’ja Wilson (1,021 points in 38 games) in 2024.
Mitchell didn’t realize what she’d accomplished until she stopped for a postgame broadcast interview.
“I think you just told me, to be honest,” Mitchell said when asked about how she learned she’d set a new record. “Y’all know how I get down. I just want to be able to show up and respond when my number is called and just be a good teammate, be a good person and just show love to the game like I’m supposed to.”
Mitchell reached 1,001 points in 40 games, becoming the second player in WNBA history to reach the milestone. Wilson was the first player to reach 1,000 points in a season and remains the fastest to do so.
Mitchell, who was drafted No. 2 overall by the Fever out of Ohio State in 2018, is the league’s second-leading scorer at 25 points per game. She has scored 20 or more points in 27 consecutive games, the longest streak in WNBA history.
