Kebbi governor reacts to death of Gwandu District Head

Kebbi State Governor, Nasir Idris, has mourned the death of the District Head of Gwandu, Alhaji Muhammad Zayyanu Haruna Rasheed, also known as Sarkin Gabas, who died on Wednesday, September 23, 2026, after a prolonged illness.

The governor expressed his condolences in a message issued by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Yahaya Sarki.

Idris described the death as a loss to the people of Gwandu and the Gwandu Emirate.

DAILY POST reports that Rasheed succeeded his father, the late Alhaji Muhammadu Bashar Mai-Wurno, who was the eldest son of the late Emir of Gwandu, Alhaji Haruna Rasheed.

The 61-year-old traditional ruler was buried in Gwandu town after a funeral prayer held at the palace of the Emir of Gwandu in Birnin Kebbi.

Rasheed is survived by his wife and four children.
