Kebbi Gov approves creation of new district in Zuru

Kebbi State Governor, Nasir Idris, has approved the creation of Ummu District in Zuru Local Government Area of the state.

The governor also approved the appointment of Aliyu Ibrahim Gujiya as the district head.

The Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Garba Dutsinmari, announced this in a statement issued in Birnin Kebbi on Friday.

The new district was carved out of Rafin Zuru District and comprises eight village areas: Paso, Sondoro, Denkre, Akwanchi, D’hava (Hato), Daklo, Ummu (Gari) and Bedi.

Dutsinmari said the creation of the district was in line with the Kebbi State Local Government Law, 2008, particularly Section 10, Subsections (A) and (B), which provide for the creation of districts and the appointment of district heads.

He said Gujiya’s appointment was based on his track record and capacity to serve the people of the area.

The commissioner urged the new district head to discharge his responsibilities with discipline, honesty and transparency.

He assured Gujiya of the state government’s support, adding that the ministry would work with him to strengthen grassroots administration in the new district.

Dutsinmari said the creation of Ummu District was part of efforts to strengthen traditional institutions and bring administration closer to residents.
