Keanu Reeves’ Iconic ’90s Crime Thriller Is Officially Being Removed From Netflix
Keanu Reeves is one of the biggest action stars in the world, but there have been times in his career where it looked like he was on the out. One of those times came around 2013, when Reeves starred in one of the biggest box office and critical bombs of his career, 47 Ronin.
It wasn’t until the release of John Wick one year later that his career was back on track, and he has since starred in several John Wick projects and other successful movies, like Toy Story 4. Reeves is one of the few stars who has been around long enough that he’s now widely known and loved for two different roles, John Wick from the action franchise of the same name, and Neo from The Matrix movies, who he’s played for over 20 years.
If there was ever a time before now when Keanu Reeves’ stardom wasn’t in question, it was the late ’90s and early 2000s. In 1999, Reeves made his debut as Neo in The Matrix, and he has since reprised that role in three sequels releasing as recently as 2021. However, a few years before the first Matrix movie, Reeves starred in one of the all-time great action films, Speed, alongside Dennis Hopper and Sandra Bullock in a career-launching role.
But three years before Speed hit theaters, Reeves could be seen opposite Gary Busey, Lori Petty, and the late Patrick Swayze in the classic heist thriller, Point Break, which grossed $84 million at the box office against a $24 million budget. The film has found a home streaming on Netflix in the last few months, but the streamer recently announced that the last day to watch the movie on the platform will be on November 30.

What Is ‘Point Break’ About?
Point Break was one of the first movies from acclaimed director Kathryn Bigelow, who returned to the screen last year with her work on A House of Dynamite, the Netflix war thriller starring Rebecca Ferguson and Idris Elba. Bigelow is also known for her work on Zero Dark Thirty and The Hurt Locker, which won her two Oscars: Best Director and Best Picture.
The official synopsis for Point Break, which earned scores of 69% from critics and 79% from audiences on Rotten Tomatoes, reads as follows:
“After a string of bizarre bank robberies in Southern California, with the crooks donning masks of various former presidents, a federal agent, Johnny Utah (Keanu Reeves), infiltrates the suspected gang. But this is no ordinary group of robbers. They’re surfers — led by the charismatic Bodhi (Patrick Swayze) — who are addicted to the rush of thievery. But when Utah falls in love with a female surfer, Tyler (Lori Petty), who is close to the gang, it complicates his sense of duty.”
