Karolina Muchova, Jakub Mensik win 2026 US Open mixed doubles title

Czechia continues to have a great summer as Karolina Muchova and Jakub Mensik win the 2026 US Open mixed doubles.

Muchova earns a long-awaited Grand Slam title after two previous finals singles appearances at the 2023 French Open and last month’s Wimbledon final where she lost a heartbreaker to compatriot Linda Noskova.

Mensik, whose biggest win to date was defeating Novak Djokovic at the 2025 Miami Open, looked like a natural doubles star. He has not played much doubles tennis in his young career. Mensik crowded the net and played great defensive tennis while delivering his trademark big serves.

Matching Adidas outfits worked for Muchova, Mensik

Muchova shared that Mensik was the reason they dressed alike. He texted her the night before they took the court for the first time on August 25 coordinating their outfits. In her victory speech, she joked that the matching outfits worked.

Neither player had ever won a doubles title of any kind.

Long night of matches

Muchova and Mensik won shortly before midnight concluding almost five hours of tennis on Wednesday night.

Semifinalists took the court at 7 PM EDT. High quality tennis was played in the three matches beginning with Belinda Bencic and Flavio Cobolli’s semifinal win over Elina Svitolina and Gael Monfils. Muchova and Mensik won the second match over Mirra Andreeva and Andrey Rublev before immediately turning around to plaly the final.

All four finalists are best known for their singles achievements. However, they delivered high quality mixed doubles tennis to a packed Arthur Ashe Stadium.

Like Muchova, Cobolli was a Grand Slam finalist earlier this year losing the 2026 French Open singles title to Alexander Zverev.

Fan-friendly format

Despite criticism about the abbreviated format, it is fan-friendly and delivers a high quality mixed doubles product for fans.

The only issue on the second day is the US Open’s ambitious time schedule with semifinal matches starting at 7:00 PM and 7:50 PM followed by a 9:00 PM final that was unrealistic as the matches were longer and more competitive. Each match was decided by the 10 point third set tiebreak. There were no straight set quick wins.
