Kano police deploy 250 trained officers to border LGAs

The Kano State Police Command has deployed 250 newly trained police officers to border local government areas across the state to strengthen security and improve responses to criminal activities.

The officers, comprising police constables and corporals, were deployed after completing a one-month intensive training programme in combat and weapon handling.

The Commissioner of Police in Kano State, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, disclosed this on Tuesday at the passing-out ceremony of the second batch of 250 officers, held at the parade ground of No. 9 Police Mobile Force, Hotoro, Kano.

Bakori said the deployment was part of efforts to strengthen police presence in frontline communities and enhance the command’s ability to respond quickly to security threats.

“In line with our operational priorities, the 250 officers graduating today will be deployed to border local government areas of Kano State,” the commissioner said.

He explained that the deployment was aimed at improving border security, strengthening police presence in vulnerable communities and ensuring a faster response to distress calls.

The commissioner urged the officers to remain vigilant and professional in their new areas of responsibility, particularly as they would be serving in communities close to the state’s borders.

He also charged them to work with traditional rulers and community leaders while respecting the rights of law-abiding citizens.

“Be vigilant. Be professional. Be firm but fair. Respect the fundamental rights of every law-abiding citizen. Protect the vulnerable. Partner with traditional and community leaders,” Bakori said.

The commissioner of Police said the officers were trained not only in combat skills, rifle handling and tactical operations but also in areas including human rights, the use of force and firearms, intelligence-led policing, public relations, improvised explosive device recognition and response, and community-based policing.

He stressed that the use of firearms must always be guided by the law and respect for human life.

Bakori said the training was conducted simultaneously at No. 9 PMF, Hotoro, and No. 52 PMF, Challawa, as part of the Nigeria Police Force’s efforts to improve the operational readiness and professionalism of its personnel.

He commended the officers for their discipline and commitment throughout the training and urged them to apply the knowledge acquired in the course of their duties.

The commissioner also assured that the Kano State Police Command would continue to organise refresher training for its personnel to improve their skills and effectiveness.
