Kano court remands 11 youths over alleged killing of police officer

A Kano Magistrates’ Court has ordered the remand of 11 youths at a correctional facility over allegations of conspiracy, public disturbance, arson and the killing of a police officer.

The court, presided over by Magistrate Auwal Yusuf Sulaiman of Magistrates’ Court No. 2, was told that the suspects were allegedly involved in a dispute over farmland boundaries in Wudil Local Government Area of Kano State.

According to the allegations, police officers went to the area to restore law and order following a disagreement over the boundary.

The 11 youths were then accused of conspiring to attack and kill one of the police officers.

The suspects were also accused of setting fire to people’s property during the incident.

The court said it lacked jurisdiction to hear a murder case and that the matter would require the advice of the state’s legal authorities.

Magistrate Sulaiman adjourned the case until October 15 for the further appearance of the suspects.
