Kaduna killings: US urges Nigeria to tackle violence against Christians in Middle Belt

The United States has condemned the recent attack on a village in Kaduna State that reportedly claimed the lives of at least 30 people, including children, and urged the Nigerian government to take stronger action against violence targeting Christians in the country’s Middle Belt.

The condemnation was contained in a statement shared on Saturday on X by the US Bureau of African Affairs.

The bureau expressed sympathy to the families of those who lost their loved ones during the early morning attack, which occurred on July 27.

“The United States condemns the early morning July 27 attack on a village in Nigeria’s Kaduna State that reportedly killed at least 30 people, including children,” the statement read.

It also extended condolences to the victims’ families.

“We express our deepest condolences to the loved ones of the deceased.”

The US Bureau of African Affairs further called on the Nigerian government to step up efforts to address recurring violence against Christians in the Middle Belt region.

According to the statement, the United States will continue to urge the Federal Government to confront the situation and improve security in the affected communities.

“We will continue to urge the Government of Nigeria to address rampant violence against Christians in the Middle Belt,” the bureau stated.
