Justin Allgaier Takes Championship Lead After Martinsville

· · 2 min read

The NASCAR O’Reilly Auto Parts Series championship battle took another dramatic turn Saturday at Martinsville Speedway, with Justin Allgaier moving into the points lead after a runner up finish and Carson Kvapil capturing the race victory. With only one race remaining in the 2026 season, five drivers remain mathematically eligible to win the championship.

The penultimate race of the season delivered major consequences for the title fight. Jesse Love entered Martinsville leading the standings, but mechanical problems and a late crash completely changed the championship picture.

Allgaier now heads to the season finale with control of his championship destiny, while several challengers remain close enough to make next weekend’s race at Homestead-Miami Speedway a must-watch event for NASCAR fans.

The top five drivers in the NASCAR O’Reilly Auto Parts Series Chase standings after Martinsville are:

  1. Justin Allgaier — 2,436 points
  2. Jesse Love — 2,414 points, 22 behind
  3. Corey Day — 2,413 points, 23 behind
  4. Carson Kvapil — 2,405 points, 31 behind
  5. Sheldon Creed — 2,394 points, 42 behind

Allgaier’s second place finish proved especially valuable. He leaves Martinsville with a 22 point advantage over Love and a narrow cushion over Corey Day, who finished third. Kvapil also remains in championship contention after winning Saturday’s race.

The remaining seven drivers in the Chase have been mathematically eliminated from championship contention. That group includes Sam Mayer, Sammy Smith, Taylor Gray, Brandon Jones, Austin Hill, Parker Retzlaff and Rajah Caruth.

Kvapil Wins as Love Suffers Championship Setback

Kvapil delivered one of the biggest performances of his season, leading 121 laps and holding off teammate Allgaier to win at Martinsville. The victory was especially important because it kept Kvapil in the championship fight heading into the final race.

Corey Day also strengthened his title hopes with a third place finish. The young driver continued to show impressive consistency and remains just 23 points behind Allgaier. With a strong performance at Homestead, Day could potentially complete an impressive championship run in his first full-time season.

However, the biggest storyline of the afternoon involved Love. After entering Martinsville with a 19-point advantage, the defending champion experienced mechanical problems before crashing into the outside wall late in the race. He finished 30th, losing the championship lead at the worst possible time.

Homestead Will Decide the Champion

The championship battle now shifts to Homestead-Miami Speedway, where Allgaier, Love, Day, Kvapil and Sheldon Creed will compete for the 2026 title.

Allgaier has the advantage entering the finale, but his lead is far from insurmountable. Love trails by 22 points, Day by 23, Kvapil by 31 and Creed by 42.

Every stage point and finishing position could make a difference. A mistake, mechanical issue or poorly timed caution could completely change the championship standings.

For Allgaier, the opportunity is to convert his late season consistency into another championship. Love must recover from a disastrous Martinsville race, while Day and Kvapil will look to carry their momentum into the finale.

The NASCAR O’Reilly Auto Parts Series championship is coming down to the wire. Five drivers remain in contention, and the season finale at Homestead on November 7 will determine who leaves Florida as the 2026 champion.
