Jude Bellingham on halftime exchange in England vs Ghana at World Cup
FOXBORO — Jude Bellingham veered within a whisper’s distance of the Ghana sideline when the halftime whistle blew.
The FOX broadcast showed the England and Real Madrid star midfielder offer a few words and swiftly turn away, appearing to not acknowledge the reaction of Ghana manager Carlos Queiroz.
Bellingham was named ‘Man of the Match’ as England and Ghana gutted out a 0-0 draw at Boston Stadium on Tuesday, June 23. The teams share the top spot in the Group L standings with four points apiece.
“I was trying to win the ball and followed through a little bit,” Bellingham said of the exchange. “Their bench jumped up trying to get me a yellow card. Their manager, I recognize him; he’s obviously the one who used to be at Manchester United. Great respect and nothing but a competitive edge for both of us.”

“In the middle of the emotion of the moment was the things that are normally in football, the swears that create more tension,” Queiroz said. “After that, it’s just football. It was nothing special, just that emotional moment where the moment you have one word that could create a little bit of fire, but immediately as professionals we calm down.
“Football cannot turn to a saloon of dancing with tuxedoes,” the manager said. “This is something for brave people.”
Before being subbed in for by Morgan Rogers in the 73rd minute, Bellingham denied a Ghana scoring chance with a tackle in the 54th minute, and recorded a physical defensive takeaway in the 59th.
Bellingham, 22, scored one goal in England’s Group L opener against Croatia on June 17, a 4-2 victory.
“No one got under our skin,” England manager Thomas Tuchel said. “It was an exchange of emotions. Jude stood up for himself and for us as a team. We knew emotions are part of our game , but we don’t want to get distracted with stuff that doesn’t help us.”
