Liverpool Transfer Latest: Diomande Remains Priority as Barcola Interest Grows

Liverpool’s summer rebuild continues to take shape, even if the transfer market has yet to fully ignite. Speaking on his YouTube channel, David Lynch provided a detailed update on several developing stories, with particular focus on Liverpool’s pursuit of Diomande, ongoing admiration for Barcola, and the uncertainty surrounding parts of the current squad.

With Andoni Iraola now preparing for his first season in charge, Lynch believes this is a defining transfer window for the club.

“As much as, you know, there’s a lot to put at Slot’s door for last season, I also think the squad wasn’t really fit for purpose,” Lynch explained. “I think this is an important summer for Liverpool. They really do have to get this squad right.”

Barcola Interest Creates New Possibilities

One of the most intriguing updates concerned PSG forward Barcola, a player Liverpool have admired for some time.

Lynch revealed that reporting from elsewhere suggested Barcola “would be very open to leaving” Paris Saint Germain this summer, a development that could significantly impact Liverpool’s plans.

Speaking about Liverpool’s long standing interest, Lynch said:

“He is on Liverpool’s radar as a player they would like.”

However, he was equally clear that Liverpool’s priority remains elsewhere.

“Yan Diomande would be higher up the wingers list this summer. He is very much the first choice.”

Yet the possibility of signing both players appears to be gaining traction, particularly if Liverpool sanction a major sale.

Lynch suggested that if Cody Gakpo departs, Liverpool could reinvest those funds and potentially create room for multiple additions across the frontline.

“Maybe more than I would have thought a few weeks ago feels like there’s a little bit of a possibility of both signings being made.”

Diomande Still Tops Liverpool’s List

While Barcola’s availability has generated excitement, Lynch repeatedly stressed that Diomande remains Liverpool’s primary winger target.

According to Lynch:

“As I understand it, still top of Liverpool’s winger list.”

He also highlighted the challenge posed by PSG’s interest.

“PSG being there in the background makes you a little bit nervous.”

Liverpool’s recruitment team are continuing their efforts, though several hurdles remain before any agreement can be completed.

Lynch explained:

“Liverpool have a lot to offer, great financial package, spot on the right hand side there is available with Mohamed Salah leaving.”

However, he added that Liverpool still need the player to commit fully to the move.

“They have to convince the player, they have to get him to tell Leipzig he won’t renew and that has yet to happen as I understand it.”

Despite those complications, Lynch made his feelings on the player abundantly clear.

“I think by the way he would be a fantastic signing.”

Gakpo Situation Could Impact Liverpool Plans

Another significant talking point from Lynch’s update centred on Cody Gakpo.

While dismissing reports that the Dutch international is actively pushing to leave, Lynch revealed an important detail from conversations he has had.

“Gakpo was described as not untouchable in this window.”

That assessment surprised Lynch, particularly given Liverpool’s need for attacking reinforcements following injuries elsewhere in the squad.

Still, he believes Liverpool would listen to suitable offers.

“If the offers are big enough, Liverpool are happy to kind of make a decision on that one.”

Such a departure could directly influence Liverpool’s ability to pursue both Diomande and Barcola.

Busy Summer Ahead at Anfield

Throughout the discussion, Lynch repeatedly emphasised the scale of Liverpool’s summer task. Whether addressing attackers, midfielders or defensive reinforcements, his overall message was clear.

Liverpool remain active across multiple fronts, but Diomande is the standout target.

As Lynch concluded:

“Liverpool very, very much pushing hard to get the player and he is their top winger target for this summer.”

p style=”text-align:justify”>For now, Liverpool supporters may have to remain patient. The market is relatively quiet, but if Lynch’s assessment proves accurate, the pursuit of Diomande and the growing possibility of a move for Barcola could soon become two of the defining stories of Liverpool’s summer.
