Joshua Kimmich — not Jamie Vardy — is having a party: Bayern Munich midfielder celebrates appearance milestone

· · 1 min read

In Bayern Munich’s 2-1 win over SV Elversberg last weekend, Joshua Kimmich entered the game as a 65th minute substitute. In doing so, he made his 500th appearance for the Bavarians, which prompted a celebration that the club organized for him:

As you can see, the cakes form the number “500”, as a nod to the number of appearances he has made for the club since joining from RB Leipzig in 2015.

Kimmich initially burst into the scene as a budding midfielder before he rose to stardom as an energetic and creative right-back who would regularly provide assists for his teammates. The 31-year-old then returned to midfield where he continued to showcase his best qualities: his passing ability, his defensive awareness, and his reputation for presiding over Bayern’s set-pieces (along with Michael Olise).

Kimmich is tied with Bastian Schweinsteiger on the all-time list of appearance makers for the Bavarians. Thomas Müller, now with the Vancouver Whitecaps, still sits atop of the pile with 756 appearances in all competitions.
